Wine routs – Šumadija region

Departure from Belgrade via hilly Šumadija to Oplenac.  Impenetrable forests used to be characteristic for this area; this is where the name Šumadija comes: “šuma” in Serbian means forest. So-called “Serbian Tuscany” Šumadija nowadays is a perfect district for agriculture and wine production thanks to land’s fertility and moderate climate.

Topola

Arrival in authentic Šumadija town Topola and excursion at Museum complex  of the royal family Karađorđević. Then follows a visit to Royal Winery on the bottom of Oplenac hill with the royal cellar of King Petar I Karađorđević that exported wine since the beginning of the World War II  to the most prestigious European courts and restaurant.

Aleksandrović winery

The tours then goes to the village of Vinča, center of Oplenac subregion. Vinča’s original name was Vincea given by ancient Romans because of the high quality of wine produced here. Here at these slopes the “Aleksandrović” winery will present once the best wine of royal cellars, the famous Triumph.

The wine, whose secret was taken away after the World War II by Živan Tadić, wine-maker from the royal cellar, when emigrated. 50 years after the recipe came to light again and since then it is said to be one of the best wines in Serbia. Along with Triumph created by mixture of Sauvignon blanc, Pinot Blanc and Riesling, we will also try Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and others. Modern technology and centuries of traditions are seen at every step of production in this winery that represents one of the major wine producers in this part of Balkan.

Despotika winery

The Tour goes on at “Despotika” winery located near the town of Smederevska Palanka and village Vlaški Do. This relatively new winery in a short period of time received good appreciation of wine connoisseurs for its high quality wines and business approach. We’ll see their cellar and have an organized lunch and testing wines made of sorts Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Riesling etc.

After wine-testing and lunch we will drive back to Belgrade.
